Looking After Skin in the Colder Months

Facial treatment being applied

Between cold air outdoors and dry heated air indoors, winter asks something different of a routine that worked perfectly well in July. The changes worth making are small.

  • Wash with lukewarm rather than hot water: the temperature does more than the product here.
  • Move to a richer moisturiser for the colder months and go back in spring.
  • Apply while the skin is still slightly damp, not after it has fully dried.
  • Do not add three new products at once; you will not know which one helped.
  • A bowl of water near a radiator does more for a dry room than most people expect.

Hands and lips take the worst of it because they are the least covered, so those are the two worth keeping something for in a coat pocket rather than in the bathroom cabinet.

In the studio, our facials shift with the season too: a gentler exfoliation and a longer, warmer mask through the winter months. If you book one, mention how your skin has been behaving lately and your therapist will adjust from there.

If something on your skin is painful, spreading or not settling down, please see a doctor rather than a treatment room. We are happy to work around it once you have.
