A Simple Evening Wind-Down
People often ask what they can do between appointments. The answer is usually smaller and duller than they expect: a short routine, repeated, beats an ambitious one abandoned in week two.
Here is the version we suggest most often. It takes about twenty minutes and needs nothing you do not already have at home.
- Put the overhead light off and a lamp on. The room does not need to be dark, only softer.
- Run a warm bath or a warm foot soak. A handful of salts if you have them, no salts if you do not.
- Sit for ten minutes without a screen in the room. A book counts, a podcast counts, scrolling does not.
- Work a little oil or balm into your hands, forearms and the back of your neck: slow strokes, no pressing.
- Stretch gently for a couple of minutes: shoulders rolled back, a slow side bend each way, a forward fold with soft knees.
That is the whole thing. The point is not the individual steps, it is the twenty minutes in which nothing is being asked of you, and the fact that you can do it on an ordinary Tuesday without planning.
If you would like to bring something home from the studio for it, our own blends live in the shop; the sleep blend and the warming balm are the two people come back for.
Repeated and modest beats ambitious and abandoned. That is true of almost everything we suggest.
