Choosing a data centre region

The right region is usually obvious, and when it is not, these three questions settle it.

Where are your visitors?

Latency is physics. A request from Sydney to London and back cannot beat about 250 milliseconds no matter what you spend, and that cost is paid on every round trip. Put the origin near the majority of your audience and let the CDN handle the rest.

Where must the data live?

Some obligations are legal rather than technical. If a contract or a regulator requires data residency, that decides the region regardless of latency.

Where is the rest of your stack?

If your database, queue or object storage already lives somewhere, put the application in the same region. Traffic between instances in one region travels our private network free of charge, and the latency is under a millisecond.

Moving a region is a snapshot, a restore and a DNS change, and our team will do it for you during a window you choose. There is no charge and no lock-in.
