Why Your Office Feels Stuffy by Thursday

Cleaner Benjamin Evalent

Every office we take on describes the same problem: fresh on Monday, tired by Thursday. The instinct is to blame the air conditioning, but the cause is almost always simpler.

Bins are first. A desk bin with a lunch wrapper in it is the strongest smell in the room within a day, and most offices empty communal bins nightly while leaving desk bins until the weekly clean.

Desks are second. A keyboard and a phone handset carry more bacteria than most bathroom surfaces, and a wipe-down twice a week changes how a room smells more than any amount of ventilation.

Carpet is third and slowest. Traffic lanes hold everything that comes in on shoes, and vacuuming lifts only what sits on top. One extraction a year resets it.

Our commercial rounds run before opening for exactly this reason: the work that fixes a Thursday afternoon has to happen on Tuesday morning, not at the weekend.
