Where your money actually leaks

A phone held in front of an open laptop, both showing a news page

Most household budgets do not fail on the big decisions. They fail on a dozen small subscriptions and standing orders that were sensible once and were never revisited.

Start with the statement, not the budget

A budget describes what you intended. A bank statement describes what happened. Read three months of the second one before writing another of the first, and mark every line you cannot immediately explain.

Sort by frequency, not by size

A single large purchase is visible and usually deliberate. A small monthly charge is invisible and compounds quietly. Sorting by how often something recurs surfaces the leaks that a size-ordered list hides.

Cancel, then wait a month

Rather than deciding in advance which subscriptions matter, cancel the doubtful ones and see which you actively miss. The ones you never think about again were the leak.
