Bluetooth Lights started with a simple frustration: smart lighting that stops working when the internet does. Every bulb we tested phoned a server somewhere to change colour, which meant an outage left us with an expensive lamp we could not turn on.
Ours does the thinking in the bulb. Colour, scheduling and beat detection all run locally, and the app talks to the light directly over Bluetooth. There is no account to create and no server to depend on. If your router dies, your lights carry on.
The beat detection was the hard part. Rather than a microphone, which picks up conversation and traffic, the bulb reads the audio envelope from whatever is playing on the paired device. The result tracks music properly and ignores the room.
Highlights
- 16 million colours, tuned for skin tones
- Beat detection with no external microphone
- Works with existing smart-home hubs
- No cloud account required
- Local control that survives an internet outage
- Five-year LED lifetime
Updates
Colour tuning complete
29 July 2026Six weeks of calibration against a reference spectrometer are done. Skin tones under our warm white now match the reference within a just-noticeable difference.
Hub compatibility testing
10 July 2026Tested against the four most common smart-home hubs. Three worked immediately; the fourth needed a firmware change on our side, now written.
Funding goal reached
21 June 2026We hit the goal in under two weeks. The surplus is paying for a second housing colour and a longer warranty.

Backed this on day one after seeing the prototype footage. The obstacle sensing is the part that sold me: every other drone I have owned swerves and clips something. Updates have been frequent and honest.

The weight is the headline here. I have carried it up three peaks now and forget it is in the bag. Battery life is genuinely what they claim, which I did not expect.

Very happy overall. Marked down one point only because the second colour slipped by a few weeks, but the team said so in writing before it happened, which is more than most.

A rare campaign where the team clearly knows how to manufacture. The milestone updates read like someone who has done this before, and the first article photographs were a nice touch.
