Handwashing stations and clean water access in our centres

Designed in from the start

Every centre is laid out so that a handwashing station is within a few steps of the entrance, the waiting area and each consulting room. It sounds small, but proximity is what makes a facility get used rather than walked past.

Stations are chosen for step-free access and fitted at heights that work for wheelchair users and for children.

Keeping them working

A station that is out of soap is a station that is out of service. Ours are checked on a fixed daily round, and the facilities team logs every check so gaps are visible rather than assumed.

Maintenance requests raised by staff go to the same queue as scheduled work, which keeps a broken tap from waiting behind routine jobs.

Sharing what we learn

The layouts and checklists we use are shared with the community partners we work alongside, so a small local clinic does not have to solve the same problems from scratch.
