Combining home and auto: when bundling is worth it

House and car outside a suburban home

Bundling two policies with one insurer usually takes a percentage off both. That is genuine, and on two mid-sized policies it is worth having. The trap is letting the discount decide the cover.

Price each policy on its own first. If the bundled pair still beats the two best individual quotes once the discount is applied, take it. If it only wins because one of the two is thinner cover, it is not a saving.

A quick test

  • Best standalone home quote plus best standalone auto quote
  • Bundled quote with identical excesses and limits
  • Compare the two totals, not the two discounts
