Meeting People When You Travel Alone
Solo travel is only lonely if you let the door close behind you. The common room does most of the work, but one small habit helps more than anything else: eat breakfast downstairs rather than in your room.
Breakfast is the one hour when everyone in the building is in the same place and nobody has plans yet. Half the walking tours, day trips and shared taxis that happen in our hostels are arranged over toast.
If that feels like a lot, come to an event instead. A film night asks nothing of you but a seat, and you will still leave knowing three names you did not know at seven o'clock.
Sanne runs the front desk and the journal at Canvas Hostel. She writes about packing light, working from the common room and the quiet hours of the city between check-out and check-in.
