Packing Light for a Long Trip
Everything you carry, you carry every day. After a few thousand kilometres you learn that the second pair of shoes never earns its place, and that a good laundry habit beats a big bag every single time.
Start with the week. Pack for seven days, not for the whole trip, and plan to wash. Every one of our hostels has laundry on site, so a small load once a week keeps a carry-on sized bag viable for months.
Leave room for the things you will pick up. A market scarf, a book swapped in the common room, a bottle of something local. A bag that is full on day one is a bag that will be uncomfortable by day ten.
