Things to do in Bangkok for free
Bangkok rewards the traveller with an empty wallet better than almost any capital on earth. Start at dawn with the monks’ alms round along the old town lanes, then walk the flower market while the orchid crates are still being stacked.
Wat Pho and the Grand Palace charge entry, but dozens of neighbourhood temples do not: Wat Suthat’s giant swing and the golden mount at Wat Saket ask only for quiet shoes and covered shoulders.
Cross the river on the public ferry rather than a tour boat, wander the plant nurseries of Bang Krachao by bicycle, and finish with free mor lam music at the weekend park stages. The city gives its best evenings away.
