Lakeview Center gives Auckland a new civic gathering place on the edge of the harbor. A sweeping timber canopy shelters a market hall, event space and public library, all opening onto a promenade that follows the waterline.
Built to resist a demanding seismic and coastal environment, the structure combines a ductile steel frame with locally sourced timber and a resilient facade. Passive shading and natural ventilation keep the vast interior comfortable while cutting the building energy demand year round.
