The sites that hold the top three positions for competitive commercial terms rarely got there through a single clever trick. They got there by being relentlessly ordinary about the fundamentals, and then never letting them slip.

We pulled apart the twenty best-performing pages in four crowded verticals and looked at what they share. Every one of them renders its main content server-side, ships a title that matches search intent word for word, and keeps its primary heading above the fold on a phone.

What surprised us was how little they rely on volume. The median winner publishes fewer articles than the sites ranking below it, but each piece is longer-lived, updated on a schedule, and linked internally from at least six other relevant pages.

If you take one thing from this teardown, make it the internal linking. It is the cheapest ranking lever most teams still leave untouched.
