Teaching Reading With Online Families

When a parent joins a reading session from home, something changes in the room. The child reads to someone who knows them, and the rest of the group listens differently. We started the sessions during a rainy fortnight and kept them because the children asked for them.

Each family picks one book a week. A teacher shares the first two pages, the parent takes the next two, and the child finishes. Nobody corrects a word in the first pass; the point is the rhythm of a whole story told together.
