World Art Day works best when it produces something rather than commemorating something. The activity below needs paper, one shared subject and about an hour.

The exchange drawing

Everyone draws the same object for ten minutes, then passes the sheet on and continues someone else’s drawing for another ten. Repeat until every sheet has been through every pair of hands.

It removes the two things that stop people drawing: ownership of the result and the fear of ruining a good start. Nobody finishes their own piece, so nobody can spoil it.

Pin all of them up together at the end. The set always reads better than any single sheet in it.
