Children do not experience a hospital the way adults do, so we built the ward around that difference. There is space for a parent to stay overnight beside every bed, a play area that is genuinely used, and staff who have learned that a good explanation, pitched at the right age, prevents more distress than any amount of reassurance afterwards. Recovery is faster when a child is calm, and calm is something you design for.
