The outpatient clinic exists to make the second, third and fourth visits easy. Appointments run to time because the clinic is staffed for the volume it actually sees, results are already on file when you arrive, and the same clinician follows you through a course of treatment wherever possible. It is unglamorous work and it is the part of the hospital most patients spend the most time in, so it is the part we keep tuning.
