Erlendur has kept this light for thirty-one years. When the automation contract completes next spring he will be the last man to have done the job, and the lamp room will be locked for good.
We slept in the keeper's cottage for a week, filmed every rotation of the lens, and asked him the only question that mattered: what happens to a place when the last person who understands it leaves.
