The rule: nothing that needs a menu

At minus fifteen, in gloves, on a ridge, you get one dial and one button. Everything else is set before you leave the vehicle. Both bodies are configured identically so a swap costs nothing.

Power

Twelve batteries, all of them body-warm, rotated through an inside pocket. A power bank that claims twenty thousand milliamp hours will give you eight in the cold. Plan for half of everything.

The one luxury

A tripod head that can be operated in mittens. It is heavy, it is expensive, and it is the only piece of kit that has never once been the reason a shot did not happen.
