How We Mark a Topic Solved

Every topic carries a status badge: In Progress while it is still being worked on, and Solved once an answer has landed. The badge shows everywhere the topic is listed, so the archive tells you at a glance which threads finished.

The author of a topic can set the badge themselves, and moderators set it when a thread has clearly been answered but nobody came back to close it. If you disagree with a badge, say so in the thread. It is easy to change and we would rather it were accurate.

One habit makes the whole archive better: when the fix turns out to be something small and undocumented, write it out in full before marking the topic solved. "Sorted it, thanks" helps nobody six months from now.
