Living well with asthma and COPD

Pulmonologist listening to a patient’s breathing

Breathlessness is easy to normalise and easy to under-treat. A yearly review is the single most useful thing most patients can do.

Inhaler technique is the whole game

A large share of poorly controlled asthma is not the medication but the delivery. Our nurses check technique at every review, and a spacer often does more than a stronger prescription.

Know your own baseline

Peak flow readings taken when you are well give us something to compare against when you are not. Two weeks of morning and evening readings is usually enough.

The winter plan

Vaccination, an action plan written down, and a standby course where appropriate. The point is that you know what to do at eight on a Sunday evening without having to decide it from scratch.
