The answer was duller than we hoped, and far more useful.

The single strongest signal was a working prototype photographed in daylight. Not a render, not a CAD screenshot: an object on a table with a hand next to it for scale. Campaigns that opened with one raised, on average, four times what renders-only campaigns did.

The second was a goal that matched the plan. A creator asking for two hundred thousand with a three-line budget reads as a guess. The same creator asking for the same money, with tooling, first run, certification and shipping broken out, reads as a plan. Backers can tell the difference in about ten seconds.

The third was answering the awkward question before it is asked. Why this price? What happens if the factory slips? Who has made something like this before? The campaigns that addressed those in the body of the page had noticeably fewer comments asking them, and noticeably more pledges.

None of this is a growth hack. It is the same advice a good manufacturer would give you, which is rather the point: a campaign is not a marketing exercise bolted onto a product, it is the product explained honestly to the people who might pay for it.

Four years of campaign data, and the same handful of things keep separating the projects that fund from the ones that stall in week two.

[7
8,9
post-32","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-campaign-stories","tag-campaign-tips","tag-funding
["GET
